It is the story of Billie Jo (a girl. her father always wanted a son so he gave her a boy's name). She is living in the mid-1930's during the dust bowls that were devasting farming areas in the southern middle of the country. And it is a bit depressing.

I'm sort of a movies buff, so the mid-1930s was the middle of the "depression" so no wonder it's depressing! Nothing is as depressing to me as "Where the Red Fern Grows." Any book with an animal makes me cry like a baby.

Have you ever read "Call of The Wild"?? we had to read that in school a few months ago. I didn't read it much..... I only got through the first 3 chapters and stopped reading. Once my teacher asked me to summarize something in it, and I hadn't read that part i had to summarize, so I just said "Well, there is this dog.... and it is in the wild.... and the wild is calling..... and the puppy is cute..... and uh....."
... needless to say my summary was completely and uttlerly INCORRECT! lol.

See I believe something similar happened on Lizzie McGuire. Miranda didn't read the Red Pony and bought the spark notes and copied it into her work. But at least you didn't buy the spark notes and copy that.....You tried your best and thats what counts......lol

I've never had to read it, but I know there was a movie version made in either 1934/1935 with Clark Gable (Gone with the Wind fame, if only he was alive today...) I've had to read much much worse! For Romeo and Juliet, I merely bought the Spark Notes and nobody noticed, because in my grade this year, we had no tests! We just had to write papers...but towards the end, I would've rather had just taken the test. I've had to read... - "Lord of the Flies" - "To Kill a Mockingbird" - "Romeo and Juliet" - "A Day No Pigs Would Die" (AWFUL!) And so many other supposed classics that I don't even want to bring up.

This guy literally feels the need to describe every little thing. It's almost as bad as "Lord of the Flies" where the author spent five paragraphs describing this pink rock. I'm not even exaggerating. He must've been on something. Nutcase.
